Game of Games at Winter Retreat

A lot of games were played and so a lot of ranks were gained. The 8th level fell to the redoubtable Eddie C, who is now leading the rankings as our first Duke. With a massive 129 points gained over Winter Retreat, Eddie actually increased his lead as no one got more than that!

The updated rankings are based on all game sheets received over Winter Retreat, up to 12.30 on Sunday. Any sheets completed after then will be added to members’ scores after the July club meeting.

If you are a non-member who attended Winter Retreat, your scores on the slips that were completed and handed in have been counted. If you join LXG over the next month or two those scores will be added to the leaderboard. If you’re curious to know how much you got, just ask in the comments section below.

Fifteen club members who attended Winter Retreat this year gained a rank. Some club members actually skipped an entire rank, so great was their haul of points!

Eddie C is now a Duke
Adrian R, David K, and Leanne J reached the rank of Marquis/ Marchioness
Alex D and Keith D are now Counts
Courtney J and Megan B are now at the level of Viscountess
Jason C is now a Baron

Winter Retreat Over

It’s all over until next year when we do it again. For those who attended Winter Retreat, we hope you had a great time gaming. Please get in touch with the club committee with any comments you have, positive or negative.

A gaming week-end hardly seems like time enough. Lots of games were being played, lots of Game of Games slips filled out. Winter Retreat is a great time to discover a new board game to try out. This year three titles stood out; Kingsburg, a strategy game that was rarely unused in the time we were there. Kingdom Builder, and interesting strategy game based around map control. Also Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Duel at Mount Skullzfyre captured imagination with its fast, ruthless and wacky gameplay.

My favourite of the week-end was undoubtedly Finska, a strategy peg and skittles game. This game managed to do what even natural disasters cannot – get large groups of gamers congregating outside! Both tactical and fun, this game is great for gamers of all ages.

I saw numerous cameras around the hall, so expect so more Winter Retreat reports to hit the website soon!
